Is it really that tough to create a quick driver so we can use perfectly good albeit 12-year old mice?

I don't know if this is an issue that's exclusive to wireless devices, but so far, my two wireless. The devices themselves work fine without the drivers, but I'd like to be able to customize my hardware using the provided driver software.
